The feeling you get when, as a scientist, you develop a new theory, idea or method, is simply brilliant – it’s an amazing feeling! When you step back to think about it, you have just come up with something that no human has ever before been able to do. Noone in 200,000 years of human development – noone in the 7 billion humans alive on the planet right now. You are the absolute first person in human history to have done something. That’s pretty cool, right?
You feel on top of the world, because you are the first in the world to do it, ever, in all of life on the planet you are probably the first person to find out what you did. When you achieve that moment, it is just amazing, you feel like jumping up and down and celebrating, sadly I share an office with 16 other people, so I restrain myself to arms raised in celebration and maybe a fist pump or two!
For me, the very best bit, is knowing that what I have discovered will make a difference, I will ever so slightly changed the world and that is amazing, that’s what I love most!
I dont really feel that different to be honest! It just get to do something interesting when i go to work instead of sitting in a boring suit in an office! They cool thing is that we do get to discover things and uncover previously unknown things and then tell other people about them. Its good knowing your work is working towards a big aim, like climate chnage, or medical cures!
