      HI boxofstrawbs,

I used to do quite a bit of voluntary work, working in an Oxfam Charity Bookshop and also before I went to University my squash coaching was all voluntary. Now I’m a PhD student, I don’t have a lot of time to do voluntary work, but all my outreach (when I go into schools) as a STEM Ambasador is voluntary.

I do a few charity events a year, such as Movember, where I grew an appauling moustache and was sponsored for looking like a compelte idiot. I raised over £200, which was great. This October I’m doing the Royal Marines Commando Challenge and we are hoping to raise about £1000 as a team of 9. The craziest thing I’ve done for charity was pulling a grand piano, on a trailer up the road to Cairngorm Mountain in Scotland, we signed up for a laugh one evening at dinner and the next morning myself and 8 friends were pulling a tonne of piano, trailer and pianist 3km over a course which rose vertically about 1000m! It was very tough!
