      Hi chay,

Yes, I get paid for my job. As I am presently a PhD student, I get paid a stipend, which is about £13,000 a year. When I finish my PhD, I hope to become a post-doc which is the next stage in a career in university science, where I will get paid about £22,000 a year.

I don’t work as anything else, apart from being a scientist, though I have previously worked in jobs when I was doing my undergraduate degree as I didn’t get paid then, and the jobs I did such as squash coaching and tutoring meant I had money to live on without getting money from my parents. Being independant like that was really important for me when i went to University!

      Hi chay,

Yes, I get paid to be a scientist. As a post-doctoral scientist (post-doc means I have finished my PhD, meaning that I get to call myself a Doctor) I get about £30,000 a year. The money comes from the UK Science Research Councils, who get their money from the government.

So luckily I don’t have to work as anything else!
