      Hey cat24,

Well the name ‘landfast sea ice’ is actually pretty misleading as there is no land beneath it! Landfast sea ice is ice which forms in coastal regions of the Arctic and Antarctic. It forms at the coast and grows out towards the sea. So when you stand on the land in the Arctic the sea ice you an see is landfast sea ice. The only point it touches the land is right at the coast and the rest of it floats ontop of the ocean.
