Ohh this is a cool question! I think the phone industry is actually pretty amazing when you consider not that long ago people didn’t have wireless phones and now everyone has one and the capability of them is pretty unbelievable! I suppose the next big thing which is already starting to happen would be in include 3D imaging, almost like holograms. Something like this would be great not only for watching movies, talking to friends (tacking the concept of Skype further) but also things like Google maps. So actually being able to see a 3D image of the city center you are walking round!

But there are just so many possibilities, its a really exciting industry so who knows what is going to come next!

      Hi lucky260,

The next big feature for UK phones is going to be 4G, which will allow the streaming of HD TV and 3DTV to your phones and tablet computers. As for phones worldwide, who knows, mobile communications has got to be the fastest growing technological development going, 5 years ago it was amazing to have a cameraphone, now you can check your e-mails, order online takeaway, listen to 40 hours of music and stream TV to your phone as well as making phone calls and texting!

I genuinely can’t think of something, my only question is whether they continue to get bigger or if we see a shrinking of phone size again.

      Hi lucky,

I wonder whether at some point in the future (and this may be 100 years or more away) we have chips implanted into our bodies (into the palm of your hand maybe) that perform many of the phone’s functions. So rather than carrying a phone around, you just talk into the palm of your hand. I suspect we’ll have the technology to do this fairly soon, but I’m not sure whether people would actually be comfortable doing so: sometimes it’s nice to put your phone away and be without it for a while, that wouldn’t be possible with an implanted chip! And what if something went wrong…..
